Lately played games

Sunday, 7 August 2011

Lately I have been playing some cool classic pc games while waiting for Skyrim and Battlefield 3 to be released. I can't wait for those though - gonna scout if anything else that's interesting would be coming out this year also. Perhaps Deus Ex Human Revolution? Not sure when Forza Motorsport 4 is to be released either but I'm definetely gonna get this game also because I want to have some good racing game with split screen.

Online games are so big trend these days that gaming industry has too much forgotten the aspect of split screen/hotseat gaming at YOUR HOUSE with YOUR FRIENDS. Well Forza Motorsport 4 will be a must so I can take some split screen match with my bro and friends :-)

(Looking forward to some Forza Motorsport 4 split screen action!)

Anyways, I've been playing lately a few cool old classics and might do a review of them later on when I have some time. First of all the turn based fantasy/strategy/RPG Heroes of Might And Magic 3 has once again stolen my time - while I've been playing it with my friend online with a few cpu teams added also. A lot of fun!

It's been over a ten years since I played a game bit similar to above mentioned HOMM: III - which is called Warlords III: Darklords Rising. Another game that makes you want to play "just one more turn". It's about buying a hero and troops (which eventually learn and get better by battling) and conquering enemy castles. Simple gameplay with a lot of game mechanics and end result affecting factors behind simple interface. Not perhaps as good as HOMM: III but nice game nevertheless.

Thief 2: Metal Age - I will play this for a bit since I haven't been knocking out those guards for over a ten years! Fun stealhing game and Looking Glass was a quality game developer indeed.

(Thief II gameplay - thanks for "ejsmith" for making this video)

And last but not least: since I back then missed this classic completely (remember only reading a praising reviews around was it 1997-1998?) I gave it a shot now and was blown away. It's called Master Of Orion II. I was earlier only familiar with part III which in a way is fascinating but has very many flaws and highest learning curve I've ever experienced - well part II is better imo. Gameplay is a bit remiscent to Civilization series especially in terms of developing and researching new technology. Instead of conquering cities you just conquer planets and build you very own designed space fleet to blow enemy ships away. Very catchy and hooking game. Highly recommended!

(Master of Orion II is like "Civilization in space")

Whenever I continue my Jagged Alliance 2 save then I'll also go on with my "Let's Play Jagged Alliance 2" story.
